Marshall Football: Fast Facts, UTSA

Everything you need to know about Texas San Antonio before Saturday’s matchup at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

1) A team from the state of Texas has never won at Marshall’s Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

2) Since the program’s inception in 2009, Larry Coker has served as the head coach at Texas San Antonio. Prior to UTSA, Coker coached at the University Miami for six seasons where he won the 2001 BCS National Championship.

3) Using elements of the wishbone and spread, the Roadrunners are averaging 431 yards of offense per game. That is good for 52nd best in the nation.

4) When running the ball UTSA likes to attack the perimeter, using chop blocks to take down opposing defenders.

5) UTSA employees a number of running backs including David Glasco II who leads the team with 41 carries for 188 yards and four touchdowns. Three other Roadrunners, quarterback Eric Soza, running back Evans Okotcha, and wide receiver Kam Jones have also recorded double digit carries.

6) Soza is the engine that makes UTSA go. The senior has completed 122 of 185 pass attempts for 1,342 yards with eight touchdowns and six interceptions. As previously mentioned, he is also dangerous on the run. Soza has accumulated 118 rushing yards and a additional score.

7) Jones serves as Soza’s favorite target. The 5-foot-11 wide receiver leads the Roadrunners with 19 receptions and 222 receiving yards. While Jones works underneath opposing defenses, fellow receiver Kenny Bias stretches the field.  Despite only catching 10 passes, Bias is second on the team with 200 receiving yards. Twelve other Roadrunners have caught at least five passes this season.

8) UTSA’s defense is best described as porous, the Roadrunners are giving up over 400 yards per game.

9) The Roadrunners have not recorded an interception this year. Along those lines, they have only forced two fumbles.

10) Never a good sign, safety Triston Wade leads UTSA with 47 tackles.

11) No Roadrunners defender has recorded over two tackles for loss or multiple sacks.

12) UTSA kicker Sean Ianno is inconsistent. The junior has converted three of six field goal attempts with a long of 43 yards.

13) Punter Kristian Stern is averaging 39.7 yards per attempt with a long of 53.
