FAU Football Coach Carl Pelini Resigns

Florida Atlantic head football coach Carl Pelini and defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis tendered their resignations to athletic director Pat Chun Wednesday. The resignations come amid reports that both coaches attended a off campus social event where they used illegal drugs.

In Pelini’s absence offensive coordinator Brain Wright has been named interim head coach. Linebackers coach Jevan Dewitt will take on the responsibilities of defensive coordinator.

Pelini leaves FAU with a 5-15 record over one and a half seasons. One of those losses occurred 18 days ago when Marshall defeated the Owls 24-23 on a last second field goal by kicker Justin Haig.

During a press conference earlier today Chun announced that the search for Pelini’s permanent replacement has already begun.
